"If my understanding of predestination is not correct, then my sin is compounded, since I would be slandering the saints who by opposing my view are fighting for the angels." (RC Sproul, Chosen by God, pg. 14)
"Answer all [the Calvinists'] objections, as occasion offers, both in public and private. But take care to do this with all possible sweetness both of look and of accent...Make it a matter of constant and earnest prayer, that God would stop the plague."
"God sovereignly decreed that man should be free to exercise moral choice, and man from the beginning has fulfilled that decree by making his choice between good and evil. When he chooses to do evil, he does not thereby countervail the sovereign will of God but fulfills it, inasmuch as the eternal decree decided not which choice the man should make but that he should be free to make it. If in His absolute freedom God has willed to give man limited freedom, who is there to stay His hand or say, 'What doest thou?' Man’s will is free because God is sovereign. A God less than sovereign could not bestow moral freedom upon His creatures. He would be afraid to do so." A.W. Tozer, The Knowledge of the Holy: The Attributes of God
"Besides, even true and living faith in Christ precedes regeneration strictly taken, and consisting of the mortification or death of the old man, and the vivification of the new man...For Christ becomes ours by faith, and we are engrafted into Christ, are made members of his body, of his flesh and of his bones, and, being thus planted with him, we coalesce or are united together, that we may draw from him the vivifying power of the Holy Spirit, by which power the old man is mortified and we rise again into a new life." [Works Vol.2 pg. 233, Wesleyan Heritage Collection].
This is first time I read it, this is beyond funny and right on the mark at the same time. Thank you for this post and thank you Kevin
That gets me every time!
I think only the elect will be gathered by the angels.Even believing Gentiles are suppose to make their calling and election sure.Who ever the elect are, they will be in all corners of the earth. They will be called, chosen and justified by Gods Grace.Their is a sure and definate number known only to GOD.We as believers most hope we are in that number, because all of us are going to be found sinners in that day.Hopefully we will not be working iniquity and i don’t think The ones God has quickened will be.So if God has quickened any of you ,then you are saved.Saved by what he has done for you,not that you tell everybody and his brother you have accepted him.Thats belony. If he has birthed you in his spirit then you are saved. Then you are his elect!

Yes, but nobody is denying this. Arminians fully agree that angels will gather the elect only. The question has to do with how the elect become the elect, not whether or not the angels will only gather the elect or not. And yes, we are to make our calling and election sure. That makes sense in Arminianism where election is conditional, but not so much in Calvinism where election is unconditional.
They will be called, chosen and justified by Gods Grace.
Arminians agree with this as well.
Their is a sure and definate number known only to GOD.
Arminians agree with this as well since God foreknows all things, including who will put faith in Christ and thereby become the elect of God.
We as believers most hope we are in that number, because all of us are going to be found sinners in that day.
Please show me in the Bible where it says we need to “hope we are in that number”? 1 John 5:13 tells us that as believers we can “know” that we presently possess eternal life, and Peter, as you pointed out, said we can be sure of our elect status. This doesn’t seem to comport very well with the idea of just “hoping” we are “of that number.”
The ones God has quickened will be.
Yes, but we are quickened (given spiritual life) by faith.
So if God has quickened any of you ,then you are saved.Saved by what he has done for you,
True, but the possession of that salvation is conditioned on continuance of faith (which is the condition for being quickened in the first place).
not that you tell everybody and his brother you have accepted him.Thats belony.
Why is it baloney to tell someone you accepted/received Christ?
If he has birthed you in his spirit then you are saved. Then you are his elect!
No argument here so long as we recognize that the new birth and election are conditioned on faith.
