Calvinist and Arminian Witnessing

Here are a few YouTube cartoon videos taking a humorous stab at witnessing from the Arminian or Calvinist perspective.  The Calvinist one was done first and the Arminian ones were done in response.  Of course, I think the Arminian ones are better and more accurate.  I also found the Calvinist one a little annoying because of the canned laughter added in between each of the Calvinist responses.  That seemed a little childish to me.  The third one deals more specifically with the opposing views of atonement.  Check them out and let me know what you think of them.

  1. Actually the Arminian one has the canned laughter. What does Arminian witnessing look like? Would the “4 Spiritual Laws” tract put out by Campus Crusade be typical of an Arminian gospel presentation?

  2. Gene,

When I said “Calvinist one”, I meant the one made by a Calvinist that ridicules Arminian witnessing. Campus Crusade for Christ is a style of witnessing that isn’t necessarily characterized by either view (if you are refering to the,”If you died today…” type of question that is usually associated with that group).

Arminian witnessing can be done any number of ways. The good news for the Arminian is that he has the freedom to tell someone that God truly loves him, desires for him to be saved, and has provided atonement and forgiveness for him through the shed blood of Christ.

    God Bless,

  3. I was wondering more if “Arminian” witnessing would include the “God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life” approach at the outset of a conversation–that’s at least what one of the characters on the videos said. I personally used that in college while in Campus Crusade, but I don’t think it’s worth much anymore. I do use principles associated with Way of the Master, though I certainly don’t want to come across as reading a script. What’s your take on WOTM?

  4. I watched another one of those animated movies that has a Calvinist arguing that it’s the secret will of God that we sin. The Arminian asks, “If it’s the secret will of God, how do you know what it is?” To which the Calvinist replies, “John Piper told me about it.”

    I nearly died laughing!
