Does Jesus Really Understand What I Am Going Through?

Have you ever….

Been tempted? (Matt. 4:1-11)

Been misunderstood? (Matt. 13:53-57; Jn. 6:52-66; 7:35, 36; Mark 8:31-33; 9:30-32)

Been ridiculed and mocked? (Matt. 27:27-31, 38-44)

Been unappreciated? (Luke 17:12-19)

Been wounded by a close friend? (Luke 22:54-62; Matt. 26:47-50)

…Jesus knows how you feel.

– will you also be among those that have rejected him?

“He was despised and forsaken of men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and like one from whom men hide their face he was despised, and we esteemed him not.” (Isaiah 53:3)

“Therefore, since we have a high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.  For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.”

Although he was a son, he learned obedience from the things which he suffered.  And having been made perfect, he became to all those that obey him the source of eternal salvation.”

“Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”  (Heb. 4:14-16; 5:8, 9- emphasis mine)

  3. Felt guilty and regretful?

    Stupid?

I dunno – it’s difficult for me to imagine Jesus that way (though I don’t have issues with any of the ones you cite)

  4. Clix,

Jesus understood what it was to be fully human, but He did not deal with the unique aspects of a corrupt human nature. So He did not directly experience guilt or low self-esteem, or stupidity (though He did admit ignorance with regards to when He would return). He did, however, have direct human relationships with fallen humanity and strongly empathized with their struggles and pain.

So there are some experiences that Christ did not share with us, but I think that there are also sufferings that He endured which go far beyond what any of us could possibly experience. His “humility” also went far beyond what we as humans could possibly experience or practice (Phil 2:5-8 )

    God Bless,
    Ben
